There is a singular reason for creating a product. Just one. But most product creators (especially the lone wolf inventor) often miss it, forget about it or ignore it.
You see, it is easy to fall in love with our ideas. To actually have a torrid love affair with the “grand idea” with all the intrigue, passion and drama that would make a Lifetime channel movie writer green with envy.
And this is dangerous because love is truly blind. Everyone around you sees the flaws but alas, you don’t. I know of inventors that obsess about the craziest aspects of their ideas. The things that in the grand scheme of product life cycle no other living soul on this planet is going to give a hoot about.
But why this madness? Why do product developers and cardigan wearing inventors do this? They do it because they ignore the only reason a product should exist.
And what is that reason? The only reason a product should exist is to create a customer.
And what is the best way to do that? By creating something that will make the customer happy…
If you are not creating something that will create a customer by making them happy, then you are wasting your time.
